How to Turn Off Find My iPhone
Using Find My iPhone
The “Find my iPhone” feature on Apple products has been a relatively polarizing one since the feature was added in iOS 5. Some say that Find My iPhone is a battery drainer and others would never think of turning it off. So is it a necessary safety precaution or should you turn off Find My iPhone immediately?
An Overview of Find My iPhone
Find My iPhone is an app created by Apple to let their customers track their missing Apple products. As long as the missing device is connected to the internet, you can identify the position of it on a map or have the device emit a loud alarm so that you can find it. It can also lock the device to prevent anyone else from accessing your personal information. Find My iPhone is also accessible through a desktop browser using iCloud. This service works for any Apple device including Macs, Apple Watches, iPads, iPods, Air Pods and, of course, iPhones.
Aside from being able to see the location of your lost device on a map, the most helpful feature of Find My iPhone is the ability to erase your personal information if you believe it’s impossible to get the device back.
Should I Turn Off Find My iPhone or Leave it On?
The decision to turn off Find My iPhone or leave it on completely depends on how confident you feel that your device will not be lost or stolen. The app always needs to know where your device’s GPS location is, so it does tend to use more battery power than a normal app. Most users, however, report that the battery usage did not make enough of an impact for them to consider turning it off.
