Vacation season is upon us! Whether you are going to a music festival, visiting family, or finally making your way to Yellowstone National Park, a lot of planning goes into any trip. uBreakiFix scoured iOS and Android apps alike to provide a baseline of what you should have installed on your device before your next big trip!

Google Translate

The go-to in free translation services, Google Translate truly is an amazing option for translating voice and text during your trip. Two people who speak different languages can have a conversation through the Google Translate app, having the conversation translated to their preferred native tongue. The conjugation may not always pertain to the correct tense or gender, but updates to this app constantly bring it up to speed for users. The translations provided are more functional than proper, but when you are in a bind of international proportions, you know you have a friend in this handy app.

With Google Translate you can also utilize a feature that translates handwriting- entered with the flick of a finger into your electronic device. Currently you can translate English into the following languages: French, Spanish, German, Italian, Russian and Portuguese.

Google Maps

In our opinion, this is the best free map/GPS tool on the market today. Though traditionally used to get from Point A to Point B, Google Maps also allows you to share and create maps with those you are traveling with, or just letting your friends back home know what you are to on a given day. If you are planning a trip to a festival or convention, you can take the time to map out your destinations via Google Maps and then share this map with your travel mates. This is a great feature because it allows you to “see around” the things you may not be interested in for a particular location.

GateGuru

Ever wish you had a directory for the airport you are roaming on a four hour layover? Well cue GateGuru to give you just the information you are looking for during your airport stay. This app can let you know information such as the wait time at security lines- though this information does depend on users of this app adding this information in real time. Besides security check-in times, you can also search for your favorite restaurants and retail spots in a given airport. Search for services such as spa treatments, laundry services and anything else you can think of to kill time!

Gogobot

Looking for good food during your trip? Maybe you need a hotel room with a sweet mini fridge situation- whatever you are looking for- Gogobot has the information you are looking for. This app can inform you of some of the more interesting sights to see in your area. Something of a social media hybrid (pretend Facebook and Pinterest had a baby- Gogobot), this is great because it means you can see reviews from actual users about places/business establishments that are being suggested for your area. If you really love a place that you end up visiting because of Gogobot’s recommendation, you can create a post and share your experience with other Gogobot users. So research, visit and share your way around the world!

PackPoint

How many times have you packed for a trip only to realize you forgot something like a charger, umbrella, or jacket. Never forget anything again with the help of PackPoint. This app has all the tools you need to stay organized while getting ready to leave on a jet plane. Packing lists can be organized/assigned via a selection of color code options as well as various icons within the app. This app can suggest packing lists based on information you provide about your trip- such as who is attending, where you are going, weather forecasts, or any other special needs your travel group may have. You can share lists with friends and family so they are just as prepared as you will be after using this app! Perhaps the most noteworthy feature of this app is its mid- and post-trip reminders. Things like charging your devices or completing flight check-in on your way to the airport.

Some good choice here, but….Google Goggles? Seriously? This was a cool app back in 2013. But Google hasn’t updated or supported it really since 2104 guys. Almost 4 yrs. It’s a dead app. What for Google Lens, but in the meantime take this off your list.
